Seating: 2 park benches at the splash pad, extra benches around the adjacent playground

Shade: none over the splash pad, shade structure over two park benches, some shade in surrounding trees


Overall assessment: A great splash pad and park for a day trip! The trees are still new and have a lot of growing to do, but offer enough shade on the grass to spread out a picnic blanket to stay for lunch or a snack.

Weekdays: very limited street parking during school hours
Weekends: plenty of parking at the Newcastle Public School lot

Shade: shade structure over one park bench  facing  the splash pad, surrounding trees have some shade but no shade directly over the splash pad


Overall assessment: A good sized splash pad next to a playground! Good for a day trip so pack a lunch!

Overall assessment: A great little splash pad right next to a playground and large field. Pack a snack and eat at the nearby picnic table!

Palmer Park Splash Pad - Port Perry

Parking: large parking lot off of Water Street

Seating: 1 park bench facing the waterfront in front of the splash pad 

Shade: surrounding trees and a gazebo in the center of the park


Overall assessment: A great splash pad with a breeze off the waterfront! Adjacent playground and park space, along with local favorite The Perfect Scoop across the street, make this park a perfect day trip location.

Parking: small parking lot off of Harbour Front Crescent

  • 1 spray lily pad
  • 2 water blasters
  • multiple in ground water jets

Accessibility Features: wheel chair accessible splash pad area (small grass access from the sidewalk)

Facilities/Surrounding Park Area/Other:

Seating: 8 picnic tables, 4 park benches

Shade: no shade over the splash pad, but the surrounding trees offer plenty of other shady spots to get out of the sun

Overall assessment: A great brand new splash pad for Beaverton!  A safe, fun way for the little kids to cool off right beside the lake.  There are a lot of neat features at this splash pad including the pivoting red water blasters that increase and decrease in distance as they spin, to the lily pad closer to the ground for toddlers at play.

Shade: no shade over the Splash Pad, shade pavilion over 4 park benches and little shade offered from the surrounding small trees

Overall assessment:  This is a great park for all ages and very colorful. The splash pad area is a great place for kids big and small to run through as they get wet.

McLean Park Splash Pad

Parking: plenty of parking in the McLean Community Centre just off of Magill Drive

Facilities/Surrounding Park Area/Other:

  • 2 slow-pitch diamonds
  • 1 basketball court
  • 1 soccer pitch

Seating: 4 picnic tables (one of which is wheel chair friendly)

Shade: no shade on the Splash Pad and little shade offered by the surrounding trees, some shade on picnic tables that have permanent umbrellas

Overall assessment: Perfect Splash Pad for cooling off after visiting the adjacent sports fields or playgrounds.  Definitely an accessible friendly location!

Carruthers Marsh Pavilion Splash Pad

Parking: some street parking along Ashbury Blvd and Audley Rd South (there is a small Carruthers Marsh parking lot on Ashbury Blvd but priority parking is for those using the pavilion)

  • 2 water blasters
  • 1 sand play area

Accessibility Features: wheel chair accessible main splash pad area (small curb lip in the sand play area)

Facilities/Surrounding Park Area/Other:

Seating: 6 picnic tables, 1 park bench on the splash pad level

Shade: shade pavilion over 3 picnic tables, 2 picnic tables with permanent umbrellas, and lovely permanent umbrellas over the sand play area!  the surrounding trees offer plenty of other shady spots to get out of the sun

Overall assessment: This is a great new addition to Ajax!  It offers a cute marsh theme with frog spray arch and tadpole like water blasters.  Definitely worth checking out since it is right beside the waterfront trail as well as Ashbury Park playground!

McKinney Park Splash Pad

Installed: 2007; resurfaced from rubber to concrete pad in 2009 (as the original rubber surface became slippery and unsuitable for play)

Age Range: 2 years and up

Parking: plenty of parking in the McKinney Centre parking lot off of McKinney Drive

Ground Cover: concrete

Main Equipment:

  • 1 water blaster
  • 1 bucket dump
  • multiple spray posts
  • multiple in ground jets

  • washrooms (inside the McKinney Centre)

Seating: 3 park benches around the Splash Pad, 3 park benches in nearby covered shelter

Shade: no shade on the Splash Pad, small covered shelter nearby

Overall assessment: A very good Splash Pad for multiple ages and well spaced out for many kids to play.  It's in a great location as kids can spend all day here with the McKinney Park playground and adjacent Skate Park right next to the Splash Pad.  Parents be on the lookout for sneaky kids trying to spray you with the multi-directional water blaster at this Splash Pad!
