Ash Creek Park

Age Range: 18 months and up

Parking: street parking off Ash Street 

Ground Cover:  sand

Main Equipment:
  • 4 slides + 1 climbing slide
  • 4 swings
  • 2 infant swings
  • 1 rock climbing wall
  • 2 rockers (1 car and 1 motorcycle)
  • 1 balance beam
  • 2 spinners
  • multiple climbing apparatus (including arch climbers)

Accessibility Features: none

Facilities/Other:
  • 1 softball diamond

Surrounding Park Area: a lot of green field space surrounding the park

Seating: 4 park benches facing the playground

Shade: no shade over the playground, but plenty of shade provided by the surrounding trees


Overall assessment: There are a lot of unique climbing and obstacle course type equipment at this playground! You can definitely make a game of it with friends and family (I guess that is why the manufacturer is called 'Gametime' hahaha). Another great feature here is the climbing 'slide' that is not all that good for sliding, but is definitely good practice for slide climbing!

Country Lane Park

parking lot at Captain Michael Vandenbos Public School on Country Lane beside park

Ground Cover: mulch

Main Equipment:
  • 4 swings
  • 2 infant swings
  • 1 bucket swing
  • 5 slides
  • 1 merry go round
  • 1 music station
  • 2 sand pit diggers
  • multiple rock walls and climbing apparatus

Accessibility Features: bucket swing in the smaller play structure area, music station, lemonade stand, sand scoop station, seats on merry go round

Facilities/Other:

  • 2 Baseball Diamonds
  • seasonal washroom (portable potty) by far ball diamond field
  • 1 Soccer Pitch
  • 1 Basketball court

Surrounding Park Area: green spaces, fields, and large shady trees

Seating: three park benches facing the toddler playground, one facing the sand pit with an entire curved rock wall for additional seating, and two facing the splash pad

Shade: shade in morning over part of the toddler structure, surrounding trees offer plenty of shade, and after we visited they were scheduled to install a sun shade over the sand pit (see the tall posts in my pictures)

Overall assessment: With a lot of trees, paths, and open field space, it is easy to make this playground and adjacent splash pad a picnic spot for a day trip! 2019 UPDATE: a lot of new climbing features and accessible features have been added to this newly renovated playground and it is being used a lot my by the younger kids in the community now (so I am told). They also have put in a few Biba Playground App features which include relay races, scavenger hunts, and some augmented reality games so that the kids will WANT to come back to explore this park some more this summer!

Vanier Park

Parking:  some street parking on the North side of the park at the end of Vanier Street

Ground Cover:  wood chips

Main Equipment:
  • 2 swings
  • 2 infant swings
  • 2 slides
  • 2 sand scoop diggers
  • 1 huge pyramid climber
  • 1 doughnut spinner
  • 1 rock climbing wall
  • 1 zip line

Accessibility Features:  one sand scoop digger

Facilities/Other:
  • see Vanier Park Splash Pad post

Surrounding Park Area: open green space and some small surrounding trees

Seating: two benches facing the playground, additional rock seating around the park

Shade: none over the playground itself, small shade pavilion over two benches facing the playground and splash pad

Overall assessment: A great park for a day trip because there is a splash pad right beside it! Definitely a park meant to entertain older kids with plenty of climbing and a nice long zip line.

Iona Park

Surrounding Park Area: small green space for picnics

Seating: 4 park benches

Shade:  some surrounding tree shade

Overall assessment: While not the largest park in the area, it is a good size with plenty of monkey bars to dangle from

Cachet Park

Parking:  street parking on side streets Wilshire Dr which is closest to the playgrounds, some street parking available on the surrounding side streets

Ground Cover: sand

Main Equipment:
  • 2 swings
  • 2 infant swings
  • 6 slides
  • 3 rock climbing walls (2 large, 1 small)
  • 1 net climber
  • 1 slide climber
  • multiple climbing structures
  • multiple rockers
  • 1 play jeep

Accessibility Features: accessible play station (although in the main sand area of the playground)

Facilities/Other:
  • Splash Pad
  • 2 baseball diamonds
  • 1 basketball court
  • 2 soccer fields

Surrounding Park Area: many large fields and a path through most of the park area

Seating: 8 benches and many large rocks around the park to sit on

Shade: pavilion provides shade over 4 park benches, some shade from the surrounding trees

Overall assessment: A fun park for climbing for the big kids with a separate play structure for the smaller kids (although not as small as others!).  The adjacent Splash Pad is also sure to provide hours of entertainment at this park!
