In the Spring it's so much fun, and offers so much cover!
These are our raspberry bushes. We started them as stalks 5 years ago and look at them now! They love our yard so much that they have started coming up in the grass, and reaching 4 feet across to our vegetable gardens! We cut them out of our garden boxes to grow veggies and this year we will have to cut them back for more control, after growing season is finished of course, who would want to reduce their berry supply? Besides our resident rabbit family loves hiding behind them these days.
The bounty we collected in 2015 came in the form of a small handful each day throughout the summer. Sadly this was not enough to make jam unless we froze our collection each day, but just enough for a daily dessert of ice cream and berries, or just berries floating in whipping cream (table cream with sugar worked well too). Our fingers are crossed that this year we have enough to make home made raspberry ice cream at least once! That is if Eloise can eat less than she puts in the picking bowl this year.
The best thing about raspberry bushes? They ensure we get outside every day to pick the berries before the birds or squirrels find them! What have you planted in your gardens to harvest this year?
